Behind the Scenes Video - Dog Portraits are a lot of fun to do and I've been photographing more and more studio style shoots in recent months. To give you an idea of what they're like, we created a behind the scenes video.
In the video, you'll see Chester, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, for the most part he was very well behaved, but as you'll see in the video things don't always go smoothly, you can't expect animals to behave perfectly all the time. Chester liked to wander off from time to time and he also liked to go and play with his toys, which dog wouldn't :)
Treats, toys, noises and a lot of patience seem to be the key to a successful dog portrait photo shoot. Treats and toys work well as a reward for good behaviour or provide an incentive to come over to the studio backdrop, noises (mainly coming from me or a squeaky toy) to get their attention for a split second.
These shoots are lots fun, I love to capture their personality and I try to bring that to the forefront of the final processed images.
I use a small studio backdrop, bring it to your home, add a couple of flashes to freeze the action and the rest, as they say, is history.
Oh yeah, I love black and white photography so I thought it would be good to have the video in monochrome from start to finish, it adds that timeless fine art quality.
Also for a limited time, as I'm enjoying photographing these dog portraits I want to build my dog portfolio, so I'm offering a free dog portrait session, to find out more go to the Offers page.
Finally, I want to thank Paolo Verdolini for filming and producing the video, I really appreciate it, cheers mate!
